SLOW WORK THAT LASTS

It takes
a village.

Most businesses treat SED and CSI as a box to tick. We don't. We turn those points into visible, measurable projects that outlive their founders — built on the strengths a community already has.

Gone mapping. Back with assets. .049

More than a tick-box

We take your SED & CSI points further than the scorecard.

A tick-box changes nothing. We turn SED and CSI spend into visible, measurable, sustainable projects — real work that keeps standing long after the funding cycle ends.

We work with Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD). We start with the strengths a community already holds — its people, groups, places and goodwill — and connect them to your business's assets. Relationships come first. Growth follows. Then we hand the work over to the people who own it.

"It takes a village — and a plan."

What you can count on

Points earned. Communities strengthened. Everything documented.

  • Visible, measurable impact

Every project is tracked from baseline to outcome — proof you can show, not just spend you can claim.

  • Built to outlive its founders

We design for sustainability and hand over to the community, so the work stands on its own.

  • Assets before needs

ABCD starts with what a community already has. The first noun in every plan is a strength.

  • Full points, cleanly earned

SED and CSI structured for full B-BBEE recognition, with a verification-ready evidence file.

What we do

From boardroom budget to community project — done properly.

Three areas we serve — business, church and school — each with a tailored, community-first approach. Choose a path to see how it works.

Where projects take root

Community projects for churches & leadership training for schools

Our business-funded programmes are delivered on the ground with the partners who know their communities best. Whether you’re a company directing SED or CSI spend, or a church or school looking for a partner, here’s how each works.

For churches

Community projects for churches (ABCD)

We help congregations start sustainable community projects using Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD) — an approach that builds on the gifts, skills and relationships a church already holds, rather than what it lacks. Through asset-mapping we identify the congregation’s existing strengths, then design projects the church can genuinely own, run and sustain long after launch.

  • Sustainable projects rooted in the congregation’s own strengths
  • Greater awareness and buy-in across the congregation
  • A clear, welcoming path for members to volunteer and stay involved
For schools

Leadership training for schools

Our school leadership training develops the people who shape a school — its teachers and learners. We begin with an assessment of where the school currently stands on leadership, then deliver hands-on, tailored training built around a real end-of-programme project that teachers and learners drive together, with our team overseeing delivery from start to finish. Leadership learned by doing.

  • A leadership assessment of the school’s current standing
  • Tailored, practical leadership training for teachers and learners
  • A hands-on project led by the school, overseen by us

Most church and school projects are funded by businesses directing their B-BBEE SED and CSI (Corporate Social Investment, internationally known as CSR / Corporate Social Responsibility) spend into visible, verifiable community impact — with the verification-ready reporting that protects their scorecard points.

How we work

The path from points to permanence.

Six steps that take a community project from a first conversation to something that stands on its own.

01

Listen

We sit with the community and your team. Before any plan, we hear what matters and what already works.

02

Map

We map the assets on both sides — the community's skills, groups and places, and your business's resources.

03

Connect

We build the relationships that make change possible, linking community strengths to your SED and CSI investment.

04

Mobilise

We put the plan to work with local hands — vetted partners, clear budgets and real momentum on the ground.

05

Measure

We track everything from baseline to outcome, so impact is visible and your points are verification-ready.

06

Hand over

We hand the work to the community that owns it — built to outlive its founders and keep standing.

The evidence

Proof you can point to — on the scorecard and on the ground.

Questions we’re often asked

SED, CSI, ABCD & school leadership — answered

The questions businesses, churches and schools ask us most.

What’s the difference between SED, CSI and CSR?

SED (Socio-Economic Development) is a formal element of the B-BBEE scorecard — worth up to 5 points for contributing around 1% of net profit after tax to qualifying community initiatives. CSI (Corporate Social Investment), known internationally as CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility), is the actual community giving a business does. When your CSI/CSR spend meets the B-BBEE criteria, it counts towards your SED score. In short: SED is the scorecard element; CSI/CSR is how you spend it.

How much must a business spend on SED, and how many B-BBEE points is it worth?

To earn the full 5 SED points on the B-BBEE scorecard, the target is 1% of your Net Profit After Tax (NPAT) contributed to qualifying socio-economic development initiatives.

What qualifies as SED spend?

SED contributions can be monetary or non-monetary — money, time, skills, goods or services — as long as at least 75% of the beneficiaries are black South Africans and the goal is sustainable access to the economy. Typical examples include community development, education, bursaries, and skills and training programmes.

What is Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD)?

Asset-Based Community Development is an approach that builds projects on a community’s existing strengths — its people’s gifts, skills, associations and relationships — instead of focusing on what it lacks. The result is projects the community owns and can sustain itself, long after launch.

How can a church start a sustainable community project?

We start by mapping the congregation’s existing assets, skills and relationships, then design a project the church can own and run. This raises awareness across the congregation and gives members a clear, welcoming way to volunteer and stay involved.

What does your school leadership training involve?

It’s a hands-on leadership-training programme for a school’s teachers and learners. We assess where the school currently stands on leadership, deliver tailored training, and run a real end-of-programme project driven by teachers and learners together, with our team overseeing delivery from start to finish.

Who funds the church and school projects?

Most church and school projects are funded by businesses directing their B-BBEE SED and CSI/CSR spend into real community impact. We connect that corporate funding to well-run projects on the ground and give the business the verification-ready reporting that protects their scorecard points.
